UNLOADING A SEACAN (STORAGE OR SHIPPING CONTAINER) FROM A FLAT DECK OR CHASSIS

Our container deliveries are generally performed with tilt deck equipment that grounds the empty container for you.  Should you require delivery of alternate equipment, then please continue:

UNLOADING FROM A HIGHWAY FLAT DECK

Flat decks (step-deck and/or live-roll is best) are forgiving to unload compared to chassis because the containers are free to slide on the deck;

  • When unloading with a crane, pick up via the top corner castings and let the truck drive out from under

  • When unloading with smaller equipment,

    • Position a machine on both sides of one end of the container

    • Pick up, then drive the truck forward

    • Place the end of the container on the ground

    • ​Reposition to pick up the other end of the container and repeat

UNLOADING FROM A HIGHWAY CHASSIS

The container can easily hang up on the twist locks if the lift is not perfectly straight and level.  To lift a container from a highway chassis without a top lift or large forklift;

​

  • Pick up the container on one end just enough to clear the twist locks, then set the container down temporarily on blocking

  • Reposition to pick up the other end of the container and repeat

  • Pick the container up with a crane or two machines large enough to pick up the whole container in one lift

  • Drive the truck out from under the container once the entire container is completely clear of the chassis
